"Melting the frozen heart with coal briquettes of love"

3rd December, 2p.m, Namsan Christianity Settlement House located at Namsan 2-Dong, Jung-gu, Daegu. Despite the cold weather of early winter, 30 young people loaded briquettes on a truck. They are the members of a volunteers group -Love Spore- which is affiliated to SK telecom Eastern Marketing Center (the general manager, Jo Woo-Hyeon), and they have delivered briquettes of love for 8 years since 2002.

In early winter, cold weather made the helping hands even warmer, that day they delivered total 48,000 briquettes, and they also distributed 3,000 liters of gasoline to 190 families including low income single seniors, households in absolute poverty, and the disabled, around Namsan2-dong sharing a warm heart.

Volunteers sweated going up and down a slope and a narrow alley where only a single hand cart can barely pass. With the surprise visit, elders were moved to tears saying "Thank you so much, I am so glad and happy to see you, young man, thank you", holding every hand.

A volunteer, Seong Yong-Hoon, said "Piling up briquettes took more time than delivering because elder's houses were so narrow that didn't have enough space to pile up briquettes, and facing pitiable look of a neighboring elder who was begging for help saying that he is in worse condition, I felt a sense of frustration."

Jo Woo-Hyeon, the general manager of SK Telecom Eastern Marketing Center, said "SK group set 1st November to 31st December as the 'Happiness Sharing Season' in order to share happiness with needy neighbors in our society, and all executives and staff members of all SK affiliates will perform variety of volunteer works, and through this event, we wish to give needy neighbors practical help to have warm and happy winter."

"사랑 담은 연탄으로 얼어붙은 마음을 데울게요."

3일 오후 2시 대구 중구 남산2동 남산기독교종합사회복지관. 추운 날씨 속에 30여명의 젊은이들이 연탄을 들고 트럭에 차곡차곡 실어날랐다. 이들은 2002년부터 8년째 이곳에서 사랑의 연탄을 배달해오고 있는 SK텔레콤 동부마케팅본부(본부장 조우현) 소속 자원봉사조직 '사랑의 홀씨' 봉사단원들.

초겨울 차가운 날씨 속에 나눔의 손길은 더 따뜻했다. 이날 이들이 나른 연탄은 모두 4만8천여장. 그리고 등유 3천ℓ를 남산2동 일대 저소득 홀몸어른들과 기초수급대상자 가정, 장애인 등 모두 190여 가구에 나눠주며 따뜻한 사회의 온정을 전했다.

봉사단원들은 리어카 한 대가 겨우 지나다닐 정도의 좁은 골목길과 언덕을 오르내리며 구슬땀을 흘렸다. 이들의 방문에 어르신들은 "너무 고맙지요. 이렇게 찾아주니 얼마나 반갑고 좋은지, 젊은이들, 고맙소"라며 일일이 손을 잡으며 눈시울을 붉혔다.

봉사단원 성용훈씨는 "어르신들의 집이 너무 비좁고 연탄을 쌓아둘 공간이 마땅하지 않아 정작 연탄 나르는 것보다 연탄 쌓는 시간이 더 걸렸다"며 "게다가 더 형편이 어렵다며 자기도 도와 달라는 이웃집 어르신의 안타까운 표정을 보면서 아쉬움을 많이 느낀 하루였다"고 말했다.

조우현 SK텔레콤 동부마케팅본부장은 "SK그룹은 11월 1일부터 12월 말까지를 '행복나눔의 계절'로 정해 우리 사회의 어려운 이웃과 행복을 나눌 수 있도록 전 계열사 임직원들이 다양한 자원봉사 활동을 하고 있다"며 "이번 행사를 통해 어려운 이웃이 겨울을 따뜻하고 행복하게 날 수 있도록 실질적인 도움이 됐으면 한다"고 말했다.
